Survey of the Area Frame Sampling Method by BPS Kota Metro

Rice is a critical and strategic commodity for Indonesia, considering that rice, as a staple food, is a fundamental human need. The success of food security development greatly relies on well-planned strategies. To devise effective plans, accurate and timely data and information are essential for setting targets and objectives.

The Statistics of Metro Municipality employs the Area Frame Sampling (KSA) method to measure the area of rice crops, a crucial component in calculating rice production. The estimation of the cropland area, particularly for rice, is carried out using a point-based observation approach of the rice crop areas. The basic principle of this approach is the direct field observation of land cover at predetermined observation points within selected sample clusters from an established area frame.

In 2024, BPS Kota Metro is conducting Integrated Food Crop Agriculture Statistics with the KSA. The KSA for 2024 is carried out over the last seven days of each month from January to December 2024, consisting of 17 rice segments and 20 corn segments of the KSA. The KSA approach is expected to provide accurate and timely data and information to support the planning of the National Food Security Program.
