Abstract
In September 2019, Metro City experienced a deflation of 0.31 percent due to a decrease in the index from 143.08 in August 2019 to 142.64 in September 2019. Two expenditure groups contributed to the formation of deflation, namely the foodstuffs group of 0.4379 percent and housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.0108 percent. On the contrary, five expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group of 0.0558 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0,0512 percent; clothing group 0.0311 percent; the health group 0.0042 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.0007 percent.
Some dominant commodities contributed to deflation including shallots, red chilies, vegetable tomatoes, cayenne peppers, broiler eggs, cucumbers, live chickens, garlic, carrots, and laundry deodorizers / softeners.
Metro City Inflation was ranked 47th, out of 82 cities whose prices were observed, 12 CPI cities experienced inflation and 70 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh by 0.91 percent and the lowest inflation was experienced by Watampone and Palopo by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.94 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Surabaya at 0.02 percent.
Metro City, in September 2019 based on calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) was 2.29 percent and year on year inflation (YoY) was 3.07 percent.
