In December 2019, Metro City experienced inflation of 0.40 percent due to an increase in the index from 143.01 in November 2019 to 143.58 in December 2019. Six expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the foodstuffs group of 0.3190 percent ; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group of 0.0319 percent; clothing group by 0,0285 percent; health group of 0.0114 percent; the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0,0075 percent and the housing, water, electricity and fuel group by 0,0042 percent. On the contrary, one expenditure group contributed to the formation of deflation, namely the education, recreation and sports group by 0.0068 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributed to inflation include shallots, eggs, vegetable tomatoes, cooking oil, live chickens, catfish, red chili, oily pastries, wall paint and wet cakes.
Metro City Inflation was ranked 38th, out of 82 cities whose prices were observed, 72 CPI cities experienced inflation and 10 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Batam at 1.28 percent and Watampone experienced the lowest inflation at 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Manado by 1.88 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Bukit Tinggi and Singkawang by 0.01 percent.
Metro City, in December 2019 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) was 2.97 percent and year on year inflation (YoY) was 2.97 percent.
