Abstract

In April 2020 there was a deflation of 0.23 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 105.12. Out of 90 CPI cities, 39 cities experienced inflation and 51 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bau-Bau by 0.88 percent with CPI of 103.16 and the lowest occurred in Cirebon, Depok and Balikpapan by 0.02 percent with CPI of 102.74 each; 105.84 and 103.27. While the highest deflation occurred in Pangkalpinang by 0.92 percent with CPI of 102.31 and the lowest occurred in Bogor and Semarang by 0.02 percent with CPI of 105.93 and 104.86 respectively.

Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.94 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.01 percent; the information, communication and financial services group by 1.86 percent and the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.17 percent. While the groups that experienced inflation were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.03 percent; health group of 0.63 percent; the transportation group by 0.53 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.84 percent. While in the clothing and footwear group; the education and food and beverage supply groups did not change the index.
