Lampung's poverty rate from the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in March 2017 reached 13.69 percent. Compared to the previous semester conditions (September 2016) Lampung's poverty rate decreased 0.17 points, from 13.86 percent.
In line with the declining percentage, the number of poor people in Lampung in March 2017 also decreased by 8.05 thousand people to 1.132 million people compared to the poor population in September 2016 which amounted to 1.140 million people.
Rural areas become the concentration of poverty where 15.08 percent of the population is categorized as poor. This figure is equivalent to 903.41 thousand inhabitants. While in the urban poor population as much as 10.03 percent or 228.32 thousand inhabitants. During the period September 2016 - March 2017, in rural areas decreased both the percentage and the number of poor people. Its poor population decreased about 8.93 thousand people (1.25%). But the opposite is true in urban areas where the percentage decreases (1.06%) but the number of poor people increases about 0.88 thousand inhabitants. The poverty line of Lampung Province in March 2017 is Rp. 384,882 per capita per month, up 4.42 percent compared to September 2016. The Poverty Line of 75.27 percent was contributed by Food Commodities, where the largest share of rice consumption, filter clove cigarettes and chicken eggs. Meanwhile, Non-Food Commodity which contributed 24.73 percent mainly affected the consumption of housing, electricity, and gasoline. Poverty line in urban area is higher than rural that is Rp. 420.227 versus Rp.371.894.
In March 2017, the level of inequality of Lampung population expenditure as measured by Gini Ratio was recorded at 0.334. This figure decreased by 0.024 points when compared with Gini Ratio September 2016 which was 0.358. Meanwhile, if compared to the Gini Ratio of March 2016 which amounted to 0.364, Gini Ratio in March 2017 decreased by 0.03 points.
Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2017 was recorded at 0.364 down compared to Gini Ratio September 2016 which amounted to 0.384 and Gini Ratio of March 2016 which amounted to 0.393. While the Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2017 was recorded at 0.297 down compared to Gini Ratio September 2016 which amounted to 0.311 and Gini Ratio in March 2016 which amounted to 0.330.
In March 2017, the distribution of expenditure of the lowest 40 percent population group was 20.07 percent. This means that the population expenditure is still in the category of low level of inequality. If detailed by region, in urban areas the figure is recorded at 18.29 percent which means it is in the category of low inequality. While for rural areas, the figure was recorded at 21.68 percent, which means fall into the category of low inequality.
