In October 2020, Metro City experienced an inflation of 0.05 percent. There was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.30 in September 2020 to 105.35 in October 2020. Inflation occurred due to price increases in eight expenditure groups, namely; clothing and footwear group with inflation of 0.08; equipment, tools and household routine maintenance group 0.48 percent; health with inflation of 0.58 percent; the information, communication and financial services group of 0.17; group recreation, sports, and culture 0.35; education group 0.14; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group with 0.07 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.19 percent. On the other hand, three expenditure groups experienced deflation, namely; the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.14 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group at 0.03 percent; and the transportation group by 0.01 percent.
Based on the dominant commodity that contributed to the formation of inflation in October 2020, it was noted that red chili was the largest commodity that contributed to general inflation. The share of the red chili commodity to inflation was 0.1165. Other commodities that also contributed significantly to inflation were Gold Jewelry by 0.0387 percent; red onion 0.0373; and cooking oil by 0.0352 percent. Meanwhile, the commodities experiencing deflation with the highest share were mackerel fish / mackerel / banyar fish / gembolo fish / aso-aso fish by -0.0448 percent.
In October 2020, Metro City inflation was ranked 57th out of 90 cities observed for price developments. Of the 90 CPI cities in Indonesia, 66 cities experienced inflation and 24 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.04 percent. The highest deflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.18 percent.
