October 2017, Metro City experienced inflation of 0.23 percent due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 136.45 in September 2017 to 136.77 in October 2017. Four expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, the foodstuffs group of 0.1559 percent; followed by education, recreation and sports group by 0,0333 percent; then the food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group of 0.0269 and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group with inflation by 0.0261 percent. In contrast, clothing contributed to deflation by 0.0041 percent; transport, communication and financial services group by 0.0029 percent and health group by 0.0007 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributing to inflation include rice, red chili, cement, academic / college fees, filter clove cigarettes, green chillies, oranges, sugar, raw tofu and children's bicycles.
Metro City Inflation was ranked 13th out of 82 cities observed for its price growth. Of the 82 cities observed in price developments, 44 CPI cities experienced inflation and 38 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual at 1.05 percent and Cilegon experienced the lowest inflation of 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Palu by 1.31 percent, the lowest deflation occurred in Palopo by 0.01 percent.
Metro City, in October 2017 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) is 2.01 percent and year on year inflation (YoY) is 2.75 percent.
