Abstract
February 2022,
Metro City experienced a deflation of 0.20 percent. There was a decline in the
Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 109.82 in January 2022 to 109.60 in February
2022. Deflation was caused by a 0.67 percent decline in prices in three
expenditure groups, namely, food, beverages and tobacco. ; housing, water,
electricity, gas and other fuel groups by 0.38 percent; and the information,
communication, and financial services group by 0.04 percent. On the other hand,
there were four groups experiencing inflation, namely clothing and footwear by
0.02 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by
0.10 percent; transportation group by 0.09 percent; and the personal care and
other services group by 0.36 percent. Meanwhile, the other four expenditure
groups did not experience any price changes.
Based on the
dominant commodity that contributed to the formation of deflation in February
2022, it was noted that broiler eggs became the commodity with the largest
contribution to general deflation, which was -0.2064. Other commodities that
also contributed significantly to deflation were cayenne pepper at -0.0977;
cooking oil of -0.0867; oranges by -0.0617; and chicken meat of -0.0529.
Meanwhile, the commodities experiencing inflation with the highest share were
rice at 0.1654; shallots of 0.1238; kretek cigarettes by 0.0349; catfish by
0.0315; and filter kretek cigarettes of 0.0236.
In February
2022, Metro City's inflation rate was ranked 58th out of 90 cities observed for
price developments. Of the 90 CPI cities in Indonesia, 36 cities experienced
inflation and 54 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred
in Kupang City at 0.65 percent. The highest deflation occurred in Tanjung
Pandan City at 2.08 percent.
