In May 2018, Metro City experienced a deflation of 0.33 percent due to a drop in index from 138.18 in April 2018 to 137.73 in May 2018. The three expenditure groups contributed to deflationary formation, the foodstuff category of 0.4178 percent; followed by education, recreation and sports group by 0,0075 percent and food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0,0056 percent. In contrast, expenditure groups contributing to the formation of inflation, ie clothing by 0.0747 percent; followed by housing, water, gas and fuel gas by 0.0170 percent; then the health group by 0,0108 and the transport, communication and financial services group by 0.0004 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributing to deflation include rice, garlic, red chili, sugar, potatoes, cayenne pepper, cement, color television, carrots and salted fish.
Metro City Inflation was ranked 77th out of 82 cities observed in its price development, with 64 CPI cities experiencing inflation and 18 cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual at 1.88 percent and the lowest inflation experienced by Purwokerto by 0.01 percent. The highest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang at 0.99 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Pematang Siantar by 0.01 percent.
Metro City, in May 2018 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) is 0.39 percent and year on year inflation (YoY) is 1.32 percent.
