Deflation in Metro Municipality on May 2020 is 0.35 Percent

Abstract

In May 2020 there was a deflation of 0.35 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.75. Out of 90 CPI cities, 67 cities experienced inflation and 23 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan by 1.20 percent with CPI of 104.57 and the lowest occurred in Tanjung Pinang, Bogor and Madiun by 0.01 percent with CPI of 102.62 each; 105.94 and 103.20. While the highest deflation occurred in Luwuk by 0.39 percent with CPI of 106.41 and the lowest occurred in Manado by 0.01 percent with CPI of 104.63.

Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 1.46 percent; the household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance group by 0.14 percent and the transportation group by 0.01 percent. While the groups that experienced inflation were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.08 percent; the communication, information and financial services group by 0.04 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.93 percent. While in the clothing and footwear group; health group; recreation, sports and culture groups; the education and food and beverage supply groups did not change the index.

The May 2020 calendar year inflation rate was 1.02 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2020 against May 2019) was 2.81 percent.
