Abstract

In July 2017, entering the seventh month in 2017, Metro City experienced deflation. Expenditure groups that triggered deflation were dominated by foodstuffs with deflationary contributions of 0.1087 percent followed by transport, communications and financial services with a deflationary contribution of 0.0923 percent; Followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel with a deflationary contribution of 0.0267 percent. While the expenditure group that withstood the deflation rate in Metro City in July 2017 was the food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group with inflation of 0,0996 percent followed by education, recreation and sports group with inflation rate of 0.0360 percent; Followed by clothing group with inflation rate 0,0202 percent and health group with inflation share 0.0009 percent. Changes in index in the seven expenditure groups led to deflation in Metro City by 0.07 percent.

Commodities that contributed considerably to deflation during July 2017 included garlic, intercity transport, oranges, red pepper, cement, green chili, squid, household fuel, chicken meat and sugar. Based on the calculation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July 2017, deflation in Metro City was caused by a decrease in index in the transportation, communication and financial services group which experienced deflation of 0.78 percent; Foodstuffs experiencing deflation of 0.38 percent and housing, water, gas and fuel categories experiencing deflation of 0.12 percent. Meanwhile, the group holding back the rate of deflation is the group of ready-made food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco which experienced inflation of 0.58 percent; Education, recreation and sports groups experiencing inflation of 0.49 percent; Clothing group experiencing inflation of 0.35 percent and health groups experiencing inflation of 0.01 percent.

In July 2017, based on inflation figures from 82 cities observed in the development of prices, there were 59 cities experiencing inflation and 23 deflationary cities. The highest inflation occurred in Bau-Bau at 2.44 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Meulaboh with inflation of 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Merauke at 1.50 percent, while the lowest deflation occurred in Probolinggo and Metro with deflation of 0.07 percent. Metro City with deflation of 0.07 percent ranked 61st nationally. Of 23 cities on the island of Sumatra, the highest inflation occurred in Pekanbaru by 0.58 percent and the lowest occurred in Meulaboh at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Padangsidimpuan of 0.50 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in the Metro by 0.07 percent. Metro City with deflation of 0.07 percent ranked 16th on the island of Sumatra.
