In July 2018, Metro City experienced a deflation of 0.05 percent due to a decrease in the index from 138.44 in June 2018 to 138.37 in July 2018. Four expenditure groups contributed to the formation of deflation, namely the transport, communication and financial services group amounting to 0.0651 percent; followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.0077 percent; then the health group by 0.0023 percent and the clothing group by 0.0010 percent. In contrast, expenditure groups that contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the education, recreation and sports group by 0.0013 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco groups by 0.0042 percent and the foodstuffs group by 0.0188 percent.
Some dominant commodities that contribute to deflation include shallots, inter-city transport, rice, garlic, cooking oil, detergent soap, bottled water, apples, travel vehicle rates and spinach.
Inflation Metro City was ranked 71st out of 82 cities that observed price developments, there were 14 CPI cities experiencing deflation and 68 cities experiencing inflation. The highest deflation occurred in Ambon by 1.45 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Palembang by 0.01 percent. While the highest inflation occurred in Sorong at 1.47 percent and the lowest inflation was experienced by Surabaya by 0.03 percent.
Metro City, in July 2018 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) was 0.86 percent and year on year (YoY) inflation was 1.38 percent.
