In September 2018, Metro Municipality experienced a deflation of 0.19 percent due to a decrease in the index from 138.65 in August 2018 to 138.39 in September 2018. Two expenditure groups contributed to the formation of deflation, namely the foodstuff group of 0.2908 percent and health groups by 0.0082 percent. In contrast, five expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.0401 percent; followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.0219 percent; education, recreation and sports groups by 0,0218 percent; the transportation, communication and financial services group amounted to 0.0136 percent and the clothing group by 0.0108 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributing to deflation include red chili, shallots, chicken meat, broiler eggs, granulated sugar, cooking oil, wet shrimp, vegetable tomatoes, cayenne pepper and beef.
Inflation of the Metro Municipality was ranked 38th out of 82 cities observed in price developments, 16 CPI cities experienced inflation and 66 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bengkulu by 0.59 percent and the lowest inflation was experienced by Bungo by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Pare-Pare by 1.59 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Samarinda and Ternate by 0.01 percent.
Metro City, in September 2018 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) of 0.87 percent and year on year (YoY) inflation of 1.42 percent.
