Abstract
May 2019, Bandar Lampung City experienced inflation of 0.81 percent due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 136.42 in April 2019 to 137.53 in May 2019. Of the seven expenditure groups, six groups experienced inflation or an increase in the index in Bandar Lampung City, the foodstuffs group experienced inflation of 2.17 percent; transport, communication and financial services group 1.46 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group 0.33 percent; health group 0.29 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.13 percent; and clothing group 0.04 percent. In contrast, the education, recreation and sports group experienced deflation (a decrease in the index) of 0.33 percent.
The contribution of the general expenditure group in the formation of inflation in May 2019 was 0.81 percent. The five expenditure groups, namely, the foodstuffs group contributed to the formation of inflation by 0.52 percent; transport, communication and financial services group 0.22 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group 0.06 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.03 percent; and the health group 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the clothing group does not contribute to the formation of inflation or deflation. In contrast, the education, recreation and sports group contributed to deflation of 0.03 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributed to the formation of inflation in May 2019 including: red chili 0.24 percent; 0.19 percent garlic; inter-city transportation 0.14 percent; water spinach 0.04 percent; car 0.04 percent; 0.04 percent spinach; chicken meat 0.04 percent; 0.03 percent sugar; squid 0.03 percent; and race chicken eggs 0.03 percent.
In May 2019, the inflation of Bandar Lampung City was ranked 33rd out of 82 cities which observed price developments. Of 82 cities, 81 cities experienced inflation and only 1 city experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual at 2.91 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Kediri at 0.05 percent. Deflation occurred only in Merauke by 0.49 percent.
The city of Bandar Lampung, in May 2019 based on the calculation of inflation in the calendar year (point to point) experienced inflation of 1.76 percent, and inflation year on year (yoy) was 3.16 percent.
