In August 2019, Metro City experienced inflation of 0.41 percent due to an increase in the index from 142.49 in July 2019 to 143.08 in August 2019. Six expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the education, recreation and sports group of 0 , 2465 percent; foodstuffs group of 0.0692 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.0497 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group of 0.0355 percent; clothing group by 0,0178 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0,0052 percent. In contrast, one expenditure group contributed to the formation of deflation, namely the health group by 0.0101 percent.
Some of the dominant commodities contributing to inflation include red chili, rice, green chili, elementary school fees, cayenne pepper, high school fees, junior high school fees, bricks, white cigarettes and gold jewelry.
Metro City Inflation was ranked 12th, out of 82 cities whose prices were observed, 44 CPI cities experienced inflation and 38 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kudus by 0.82 percent and the lowest inflation was experienced by Madiun by 0.04 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau by 2.10 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Palopo by 0.02 percent.
Metro City, in August 2019 based on the calculation of calendar year inflation (Point to Point) was 2.61 percent and year on year inflation (YoY) was 3.20 percent.
